Storage Tips for Your Self Storage Unit

  • Use good quality and sturdy storage boxes to pack your items before moving and storing. Check out our boxes and packing materials in store.
  • Do not overstuff the boxes. You should be able to lift the packed boxes comfortably. Heavy items should be packed into small boxes for easy handling and moving. Larger boxes can be used for lighter items such as beddings, blankets, lampshades and cushions.
  • Label your boxes so that you know what’s inside each box. Make another list of the boxes that are in storage so that you know what’s in your self storage unit. Keep the list at home to help you remember what you have stored.
  • Use bubble wrap to protect fragile items such as dishes, glassware, lamps. Clearly mark boxes “Fragile” or “Handle with Care” to avoid damages during moving.
  • Place heavier boxes at the bottom to act as a sturdy base, then stack lighter boxes on top.
  • Dismantle larger items such as bed frames and dining tables before storing so that you can save on space. Tape screws to the frames, then tape frames together before storage.
  • Place items that you need to access to frequently at the front of the storage unit. Be sure to leave a clear path down the centre of your storage unit so that you can still reach the items stored at the back
  • Always use protective cover over your soft furnishings like mattress and sofa to maintain their condition. Do not stack heavy items on them.
  • Due to the climate in Bangkok, it may be a good idea to use dehumidifying agents or desiccants for sensitive items like textiles, leather coats, paintings and photographs especially for long term storage as this protects against humidity and mildew.
  • Wrapping leather products or paintings in plastic or bubble wrap is a no-no. Instead, use acid free tissue sheets or blankets that allow air circulation and do not trap condensation.
  • Bicycle seats, handles of tennis rackets and other sporting paraphernalia should also be cleaned and dried before putting them in storage as sweaty equipment encourages mould to grow.
